The Seasons

To everything there is a season right? In Melbourne we go back and forth a lot between seasons as the prevailing winds and pressure fronts come from all directions. Mostly November through February,  the wind comes from the north but sometimes the high pressure lets a warm sunny day in to soak your bones. The brisk wind returns and you may wonder if Florida forgot it’s one job.

Shortly after wondering why it is still cold hoodie weather, the sunburn returns around lunchtime. Sunscreen in the car door allows for quick application at stoplights on your way to the beach or nature hikes. Just keep it in there because you will want it. My skin aged so quickly here in the first five years thinking I knew full well what my time to tan ratio was, oops. Now brown spots and crepes adorn the cute v necks of yesteryear. Sunscreen! Got it?

Now for the “kill ya hot” lecture. Someday you may find yourself at a beach, nature hike, or gardening when you realize your hydration is lacking miserably. Your heart beats in your temples as you retreat to A/C full blast. Scrambling to find water, you remember it is late March and you’re not allowed to leave the house without a hydration flask for the next 7 months. Plan ahead to reduce, reuse, recycle please as the plastic burden in our beautiful state is tremendous.  Plan ahead for your kids, dogs, cats, elderly, the unhoused, March through September can go from oh what a nice day, to kill ya hot heatstroke very quickly.

Lecture complete. Thanks for reading.
